With Montessori homeschooling, the child directs the learning. Parents need to learn how to facilitate their children's education by connecting materials and curricula with children's interests. They also create a prepared environment that encourages children to explore and discover.

Parents can find ways for children to participate in meal preparation, cleaning, gardening, and caring for clothes, shoes, and toys. Providing opportunities for independence is the surest way to build children's self-esteem.
